Overview

Dr. Sabir is the education coordinator at the Center for Integrated BioSystems. She is also a lecturer in the Department of Agriculture Systems Technology and Education.  She received her bachelor degree from the University of Baghdad and her Masters and Ph.D degrees in curriculum and Instruction from The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Sabir has over the years developed and taught several undergraduate courses in social sciences. She has also been responsible for overseeing the pre-service training programs for several years. Dr. Sabir has many years of experience in teaching and training program development for high school teachers and students. At Penn State she developed several training programs for high school teachers about the NASA Space Programs as part of the NASA Space Consortium. At Utah State University she pioneered the development of the biotechnology summer academy for high school students in 2001. This is a five-day internship for motivated and bright high school students to attend USU in the summer time and participate in life science activities and research at the Center for Integrated BioSystems. Students will get a chance to participate in faculty research during the week and receive hands-on experience in biotechnology related topics. This program has just completed its sixth highly successful offering last July. She has also developed and directs  biotechnology symposium for science, agriculture and health science teachers in the State of Utah. The aim of this program is to introduce high school teachers to biotechnology curriculum materials and hands-on exercises that could be incorporated into their classes.  Dr. Sabir is also involved with the USU Multicultural Scholars Program and coordinates the  undergraduate internship program at the Center.
