Teacher Symposium(date pending)

Utah State University's Center for Integrated BioSystems, in collaboration with Utah State Office of Education, is offering an intensive one-day program for science, health-science, and agriculture teachers who teach grades 7-12.

The Utah State Office of Education offers 0.5 service credit to teachers participating in this program. Participants will hear from fellow science teachers about exciting and effective ways to incorporate biotechnology into existing science courses. Symposium speakers will present an overview of recent developments in biotechnology research and how they impact our lives. In addition to hands-on exercises in DNA isolation, fragmentation, and analysis, the program includes a tour of the state-of-the-art Center for Integrated BioSystems.

A manual containing all the presentations as well as step-by-step laboratory exercises and reference materials will be presented to each teacher. The manual can be used by teachers as a guide to incorporate these exercises into classroom curriculum.
