The CIB is an active and vibrant focal point for life science activities at Utah State University. A multifaceted core facility at USU, the CIB is dedicated to agricultural and environmental biotechnology research. The Center's scientists and staff work together to further our core components: Research, a Core Service Lab Facility, Biotechnology Training and Student Education.
To keep pace with the rapid changes of biotechnology, we are always taking on new projects. We are constantly updating our scientific tools, and most recently we've developed our strength in metabolomics and bioinformatics. Our goal is to maximize CIB's biotechnology contributions and accomplishments in the Western Region, while providing tools that allow others to do the same.

RESEARCH
The research group has several active and diverse projects that encompass plant, animal, and microbe genomics. Our projects include collaborators from many disciplines, on-campus and off-campus, academic and industrial. more »
CORE LABS
Operated with a biotechnology business model, our core labs consist of genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, all providing fee-for-service offerings to life scientists both on-campus and off. Always updating our tools, we've just acquired an Affymetrix Gene Expression system. more »
BIOTECHNOLOGY TRAINING
The Biotechnology and Bioprocessing Training at USU’s Center for Integrated BioSystems provides training and technical support to researchers and educators from all realms of the scientific community. Participants come to our program to gain new insights and knowledge from experts covering theory and the newest practices. Our experienced staff is dedicated to illuminating every aspect of cell culture, fermentation, and protein purification, as well as gene expression and proteome analysis. Most importantly, our courses provide an opportunity for attendees to translate theory into hands-on experience during our cutting-edge laboratory sessions. more »
STUDENT EDUCATION
Our activities range the gamut, inspiring the next generation of life scientists:
- Seminars:
CIB hosts diverse speakers for interdisciplinary discussions and collaboration-building.
- Graduate:
hands-on workshops in new techniques and equipment operation
- Undergraduate:
Internships interfacing with the research program.
- High School:
CIB's High School Summer Academy brings students to USU and partners them with faculty mentors for a week of science.
